A proud Department of General Services team:Peter Livingston, Energy & Sustainability Manager;Thomas Fincher,  Project Management Division Chief; April Heinze, Director; Lou Cavagnaro, Assistant Director

On April 28,  April Heinze, Director of General Services, accepted the New Construction/Sustainability Award at the San Diego Gas & Electric Energy Showcase awards luncheon at the San Diego Convention Center. The award recognizes the high energy performance and the sustainable planning, design and construction of the first phase of the County Operations Center redevelopment in Kearny Mesa. The project included a new central plant for air-conditioning and electrical service, two new four-story office buildings, a new parking structure and new landscaping of the grounds. Specific achievements highlighted the awards ceremony included the office buildings' U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold certification and Department of Energy Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR designation, hosting a large photovoltaic system on the parking structure and highly water-efficient landscaping. Overall, the first phase is expected to save the County $265,000 annually in utility costs over a conventionally designed facility.
